I started painting in the early 1990s when I joined an Adult Education evening class in Farnham. Although I enjoyed painting in watercolours I felt the need to experiment with different media and styles, and so I decided to take ‘A’-level art, again at evening class.
The ‘A’-level course enabled me to experiment with acrylics, pastels, charcoal, etc, and with figure drawing, still-life and landscape, on a much larger scale than before.
Since finishing ‘A’-level in 2000 I have painted mainly in acrylic paints and inks and introduced texture with materials such as news print, tissue paper and sand.
My paintings are best described as colourful abstract landscapes! I am inspired by the colours I see in nature. Things like trees in autumn, rock pools, the morning sky criss-crossed with vapour trails, rock formations, etc. I have exhibited in Grayshott and Farnham, and in London at the Bedford Park Festival, at the Mall Galleries and in Curzon Street. I also have pictures hung in Mexico, Canada and South Africa.
