Born in Greenock, Scotland in 1945, I drew and painted from an early age.
My style of work is loose realistic with a very varied range of subjects. From marine/river scenes, to landscapes as well as portraits, life and the odd floral study.
Most of my work is either painted “plein air” on site or developed from sketches.
I have been an exhibiting member of Farnham Art Society for nearly 40 years.
I was honoured to be elected a member of The Wapping Group of Artists in 2007 and also with Chelsea Art Society in 2010. I also paint with The Surrey Hills Plein Air Group that meets most weeks, in all weathers.
Painting is a major part of my life, a journey that started many years ago and still continues. Originally, my preferred medium was watercolour, although these days I paint mainly in oils and soft pastels.
Pastels I find are ideal for working outside and can be used in all weathers, apart from when it is raining. They are wonderful for laying down colour quickly, without having to wait for any drying or colour mixing
Arriving on site, I find choosing a subject to paint can take quite some time. I paint what excites me rather than what I think might sell.
I have had work exhibited in The Pastel Society, The ROI, The RSMA and RI at the Mall Galleries also with The RWS Summer Exhibition at The Bankside Gallery in London.
I undertake live and Zoom demonstrations / workshops for Art Societies and groups.
