Jean Robinson was born and educated in Cardiff. She studied music and history in Nottingham, training as a teacher and she still teaches part time in Farnham, Surrey. Jean began painting in 1987 when her youngest son started school. She had always shown an interest in art and started painting seriously a few years later with a group of artists who for several years were tutored by Mike Bernard R.I.
Jean paints mainly in a semi-abstract way using acrylics, watercolours, inks and collage. Her paintings are intuitive rather than literal and emerge from remembered images and shapes, with colour often being the starting point.
Music in many forms influences Jean's paintings - the bold and colourful ones seem to grow when listening to jazz and rock music and the mellow ones emerge with the classics!
She has exhibited at numerous exhibitions including:
The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours
Royal Society of British Artists
Royal Watercolour Society
Society of Women Artists
Affordable Art Fair, Battersea
Chelsea Art Society
Llewellyn Alexander Gallery
Broadway Modern Gallery, Cotswolds
Chichester Open Art Society
Welsh Artist of the Year Exhibition
R.I. Members Exhibition Fine Art U.K. Ledbury, 2006
Postcards for Sick Kids Exhibition, Edinburgh, 2006

Jean's work is held by a number of galleries including Broadway Modern, Broadway and Fine Art UK in Ledbury. Some of her pictures have been reproduced as greeting cards for Marks & Spencer.
