I mainly paint seascapes, landscapes and equestrian subjects plein air or life or in a studio with a model.
I always sketch or paint plein air and paintings are usually progressed in the studio.
Although I have played with what I call abstract realism and find that way of painting very interesting, my style is really "realism impressionist“ I tend to paint what I see. The light fascinates me!
My subject matter is quite diverse but I am probably best known for my seascapes, especially of the Devon South Hams and the Solent .I have had a studio in Salcombe for the past 23 years as well as Surrey and have never wearied of painting a similar subject as the light is always different.
Equestrian subjects are another passion and I have kept horses for many years.
I studied graphic design at St Martins School of Art in the mid to late 60s where I learnt to draw and observe, as well as design.
After graduating I worked as a graphic designer and illustrator and laterly a freelance art director, mainly in advertising and publishing.
I have always painted from an early age and have exhibited Nationally on many occasions with Societies in London including the RA, NEAC, ROI, SWA, and the Society of Equestrian Artists (ASEA).
My paintings have been reproduced as book covers, prints, magazine covers ( Country Life ) greetings cards and calendars world wide, over the years.
