I was born in London and brought up in the Highlands of Scotland however I have a mixed heritage of British, Singaporean, Italian and even Dutch and Russian and so my upbringing has strong Eurasian influences. I now live in Tilford, Surrey with my husband and two daughters.
I come from a strong line of creative females covering all the major arts, however, painting is my medium and my passion is abstract. My paintings are inspired by touch and colour, capturing the magic of a visual and/or emotional experience with the sensation of different textures under your fingertips. My process involves sumptuous layering using varied marks from brushes, hands, palette knives, plasterers' trowels and other tools to create depth as well as subtraction with sgraffito techniques where I scrape, gouge and smear to reveal the underlying history. I love the layering process which is meditative, intuitive and expressive. I believe it allows me to produce work that is at once simple or complex or both, just like life, in a painted and hopefully unique form. I continue to learn and refine my craft exploring these days more with risk and what moves my soul.
