Christmas Demo - Have a go evening with Kate Alger
Kate Alger is a local analogue artist-printmaker-educator; all of her work is drawn and printed by hand. Her work has been shortlisted for several prizes, including the final of the DSWF Wildlife Artist of the Year 2024, and has won several printmaking prizes. Her original prints have been shown in various galleries and exhibitions such as the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, Mall Galleries, the British Motor Museum, Watts Gallery, the New Ashgate, the Royal Automobile Club, Southbank Printmakers' Gallery, Goodwood, RBSA, Oxmarket Contemporary etc. Her work has been featured in specialist press and notable corporate commissions include bespoke artwork for Print Club London, a Savile Row tailor, a large London-based dog charity, a Michelin-starred chef, a Guildford conservation charity, an international events company and upmarket wedding venues.
Kate firmly believes in the importance of using our hands to create art and is the art lead for The Flying Child (a non-profit for adult survivors of child sexual abuse), and a freelance artist at Watts Gallery where she designs and leads workshops for toddlers, families, teenagers who find school difficult for various reasons and female inmates. Kate also runs a weekly affordable art-for-wellbeing session in Guildford and a wide range of creative workshops independently.
On Monday 9th December, join Kate for an evening of festive printmaking with friends, mince pies, and a glass of wine. Kate will demonstrate a form of intaglio printmaking using tetra pak packaging and a mini printing press. You'll have a chance to have a go too in the second half of the evening and Kate will have a selection of other original prints with her (etchings, monotypes, collagraphs, blind embossings etc) as well as greetings cards and handmade tree decorations to buy.
